On the Metal Branch
6-15-09
Tiny bird
Perched up on the street lamp
Singing summer songs
Over the traffic noise
Only the clouds, the setting sun
And myself are listening
All else is bustle
It chirps happily
Insistently
On its metal branch
Above the asphalt jungle
Looking this way and that
Searching for companionship
We as city dwellers can certainly empathize
Trying to make our voices heard
Above the oblivious din.
